As gimmeBRITNEY reported, Sony Music were expected to send out an official press release this morning – and without skipping a beat here it is.
For Immediate Release:
January 7, 2011Britney Spears Set To Release New Single “Hold It Against Me” On Tuesday, January 11th
Song Will Debut Simultaneously At Radio And On The U.S. iTunes Store At Midnight (EST) On January 11th
New York, NY- Britney Spears’ new highly anticipated song “Hold It Against Me” will premiere simultaneously on radio stations and be available immediately in the U.S. exclusively on the iTunes store, Tuesday, January 11th at 12AM EST.
“Hold It Against Me” is produced by Britney’s long-time collaborators Max Martin and Dr. Luke and is the official lead single from her forthcoming album. The as-yet-untitled seventh studio album is slated for release in March, 2011 on Sony Music.
Fans will have the opportunity to purchase the song exclusively on the iTunes store until 1/18.
During her 12-year career, Britney has had five albums debut in the No. 1 position on Billboard ’s Top 200 Albums chart and she’s had 24 Top 40 hits on Billboard’s Mainstream Top 40 chart. Globally, Britney Spears is one of the top-selling artists of the past decade, dominating charts with her albums, selling an astonishing 67 million albums worldwide. Her previous albums include: …Baby One More Time (1999); Oops!… I Did It Again (2000); Britney (2001); In The Zone (2003); Blackout (2007); Circus (2008); and The Singles Collection (2009).
It appears that respectable Britney site PoorBritney was correct in their information that the Facebook campaign was indeed scrapped for the single being released to iTunes and radio on Tuesday.
We’re still chasing up information with Sony Music locally, however based on this information the single will head to Aussie radio shortly after 4pm AEDST on Tuesday. We’ll let you know once we know.

Spears’ managers Larry Rudolph and Adam Leber gave Ryan a first listen to the high-energy single on Thursday, which blew away the demo that leaked online earlier this morning. Leber played the song off of his trusted iPod Classic in Ryan’s radio studio (see photo right). Britney’s managing team also played a second song for Ryan, “I I I Wanna Go” another powerhouse single from the new album.
Rudolph and Leber explained to Ryan that the creative process for “Hold It Against Me” music video is well underway and are nothing short of spectacular. Spears has been rehearsing choreography for the video for a month now, and will shoot in two weeks.

NOTE: This is just discussion – not information from Sony Music Australia.
Surprisingly, the iTunes information for the track features the writers “Dr. Luke / Max Martin / Bonnie Mckee”. Bonnie McKee, of course, has worked with Dr Luke and Max in the past, co-writing California Gurls, Teenage Dream, and a stack of Rihanna tracks. She also attended the Texas ‘Writing Camp’ in late 2010 which featured dozens of writers working on various tracks for Britney’s 7th album.
Additionally, the track is titled ‘Hold It Against Me 1.0′, implying this is a first version. It’s plausible that this is a rough track produced by ‘Riz’ (a writer/artist on Akon’s Konvict label who leaked the supposed demo) that’s now been passed onto Max and Luke, been completely reworked, and is now an epic flawless hit waiting to be devoured by us hungry fans.
Of course Sony are sleeping right now, so we can’t ask them if the demo is legitimate or not (we have no idea) – but we can’t help but wonder if this is a bit of intentional leakage to make all of Brit’s fans go crazy! I mean, Kill the Lights didn’t appear out of nowhere last time…
Guess we might find out when the official press release comes out on Friday the 7th (The 8th for Australians)!
What do you think of our theory? Discuss in our forum ‘The Zone’ now!
UPDATE: UK music website Popjustice has just confirmed that the demo is indeed REAL, but the final version of the song will sound VERY different.
…the production, vocal and structure will sound very different.
And you don’t have very long to wait.
