The Age posted an article in today’s newspaper as well as online regarding promoters and ticketing for Britney’s upcomi…I mean, rumoured…tour coming to Australia.
HOW much would you expect to pay for Britney Spears? The Australian music industry is buzzing with rumours about Spears’ forthcoming tour, including its likelihood, price point and chances of success. At a time when ticket sales for arena concerts are down 20 per cent and few shows are confirmed for next summer, some promoters are asking if local fans will pay what it takes to make a profit.
Four of the original five Australian promoters bidding for her tour dropped out due to financial restrictions (there was talk of $1.4 million a show in costs) and doubts about whether the tabloid perennial could hold it together.
While everyone in the industry is talking about who’s got Britney, nobody would confirm they had the gig — normally something a promoter would shout from the rooftops.
“From the Britney perspective, there will be a gawk and novelty factor,” a competitor says.
“(The promoter who won) is paying astronomical coin for it and it’s a nightmare waiting to happen, financially and emotionally.”…Michael Coppel, who is hosting the year’s biggest tour, Pink, from next week, describes the current environment as a seasonal lull, adding that things should be “really busy from September onwards”.
…emphasis on that last sentence. I mean, what?

News on the Circus tour coming to Australia has been very slow of late, however auspOp is backing up initial rumours that tour promoters want Britney here, but are nervous about bringing the tour to Australia due to the current global economic crisis.
Tour promoters are worried that the Australian public won’t part with their hard earned cash to see Britney perform, and because she hasn’t toured here previously they have no measure of prior ticket sales or interest.
Ticketek have yet again launched this “register interest” page – and a rep for Ticketek responded to our questions by stating that the page is to provide an indicator of interest in the tour, and also to alert Ticketek members to any news regarding a possible tour. It was followed up by the usual no tour has been announced statement.
So let’s get our own indication on this one from the Australian community. Vote now.

Because there is so much info going around at the moment regarding the recent court hearing, I’ll try and summarise it all:
According to Radar Online, the judge “gave permission for them (Britney’s conservators) to look into keeping Britney working, but put off a definitive ruling.”
Basically, everything is set to go, but it’s up to the judge and Britney’s conservators whether or not it goes ahead. Right now they’re considering it, but it’s all to do with whether it’s worth it financially.
The plans are still set, the Australian leg of the tour is still on the cards. Almost everything is in place, but it’s all to do with Britney’s team and whether they think it’s worth it considering the economic downturn and the weakness of the Australian dollar that’s seen the cancellation of Madonna’s tour happen.
Just keep waiting, and keep hoping that Britney’s team works to make it happen. Britney has expressed her interest through many sources that she wants to tour Australia, seeing as last time around her injury stopped it from happening.
If there’s no word by about mid-May, then it’s probably safe to say that it’s not happening – but there’s still a big chance that it will! Keep your hopes up!

Even more confirmation that Britney will be coming to Australia later in the year, with a conservatorship hearing – not about money, but about Britney extending her Circus tour to cover more continents…
Lawyers today raised the idea of expanding Brit’s tour to include dates in Australia and parts of Europe. Currently Britney’s tour dates are in the U.S. and Canada, with a few dates in London in June.
Nothing was decided upon today. They are due back in court April 14.
